At Function Point, our goal is to make productivity more personable. What that really means is helping people. It’s included in our employee handbook, is reflected in how we onboard and consult with customers and can be seen in how we design the FP system. It’s woven through the fabric that makes up Function Point.
Wanting to extend that beyond what we do professionally, we formally launched ‘Positive Productions’—an initiative aimed at helping our community and the city we live in. For our first company-wide Positive Production, the FP team spent the day volunteering with the Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup.
On July 5th, we stepped away from their desks, standup desks and beanbag chairs to help clean up Second Beach. Clad in gloves, FP hats and a healthy amount of sunscreen, the team (including resident office dog, Levi Wilson) took to tidying up one of Vancouver’s lovelier beaches. Some interesting finds included a collection of water balloons, a BBQ grill, a vintage knife sharpener, diapers and two happy birthday foil balloons.
A sense of community stewardship has always been a part of the company with FP working with the Canadian Red Cross, First United Downtown Eastside Shelter, Downtown Eastside Women’s Shelter and the Vancouver Food Bank in the past. Activities have included cash donations as well as coordinating food and clothing drives.
Available to all FP employees, two paid days per year are available to spend volunteering with a not-for-profit organization. This time is voluntary, encouraged and honoured as an individual or group pursuit—with company wide events like the shoreline cleanup planned each quarter.
