What is The Best Software For Your New Media or Digital Agency?

The simple answer to the question of what software to use at your new media, digital or interactive agency is the software that you use! This may seem like a bit of a cop-out, but it’s not. Far too often we’ve had agencies join what we like to call the Function Point team only because they’ve failed in their deployment or use of one of our competitor’s offerings.

Taking a biased view, of course I’d like to say that our software is much better and that’s why agencies are switching to us. A more realistic point of view, though, is that more often than not (when comparing full-service agency workflow management solutions) the reason for failure to adopt a software solution has more to do with training and support than the software itself.

All software solutions in the creative agency market (Workamajig, Clients & Profits, to name a few) promise the same thing as Function Point. We all promise to help your agency streamline its workflow and increase profits – and regardless of which software you ultimately decide to use, you will be successful in doing just that … IF your whole team adopts the software.

This means everyone is doing their timesheets, all jobs are entered into and invoiced through the system and all your critical information and data is kept up-to-date. If you do that you will be amazed at how much billable work can be “found” and how much more efficient your entire agency can work. If you already have a workflow management system in place you already have half the battle won, now you just need to ensure that your software provider is there to help you finish what you started.

If you’re looking for a new software solution or are trying to successfully deploy the software you chose, keep in mind that the software itself is only part of the answer. Probably more important even is the team of individuals behind the software – these are the people that you will be working with (hopefully) for years to come. Ask about initial training, find out how much they know about your business and your industry, inquire about ongoing support and updates … in short, get to know the team behind the software.
